Therapy Tailored for People Living Abroad
Meet Your Therapist
Welcome to Expatriate Therapy. My name is Corene Crossin. I am an Australian registered psychotherapist, researcher and author with 10 years experience supporting individuals and couples across 20 countries.
A former senior executive who has lived in six countries, I understand the emotional impact of relocation, the identity challenges, and the relationship strain that often comes with living abroad. My approach to therapy is warm and collaborative, and I draw on extensive post-graduate training in psychology and counselling with my lived experience of being an expat myself.
Support for people who are…
-
Feeling isolated
Even in a room full of people, you may feel profoundly alone. The connections you have made feel surface-level, and you miss being truly known.
-
Grieving what they have left behind
You miss home, including family, friends and community. But the sadness is deeper than being homesick, and may be hard to explain.
-
Experiencing culture shock
You thought you'd adjust after a few months. It's been longer than that, and it's still hard to adjust to life here.
-
Unsure about identity and purpose
At home you had a life that made sense and people who knew you. Here, you feel like you're starting from zero and questioning who you are.
-
Struggling being a trailing spouse
You moved for your partner's work. Now you may have lost your own career, or parts of your identity too. You may feel resentful, anxious and not sure how to deal with it all.
-
Worried about their relationship
One of you is thriving, but maybe the other is struggling. Or you're both stressed and taking it out on each other. You're each other's only support system and it's too much pressure.
-
Dealing with guilt and anxiety
You feel like you should be grateful. Instead, you're miserable and don't know who to tell.
-
Concerned about children
Your kids seem fine on the surface, but you worry about how all this moving affects them. Or you're dealing with repatriation and they don't want to "go home."

The Relocated Self: A guide for trailing spouses
The Relocated Self is a book for trailing spouses accompanying expat partners and trailing spouses whose lives changed when they move for someone else’s career. It speaks to the emotional side of relocation that often goes unseen, even inside the relationship.
Drawing on clinical experience, research, and real stories from trailing spouses, The Relocated Self helps you make sense of:
• the emotional landscape of relocating to a new country
• shifts in identity and confidence when familiar roles fall away
• career loss and reinvention when your professional path is interrupted
• how partnership, intimacy, and communication change abroad, and how to work through tensions together
• parenting and family life without your usual support network
• ways to build a life that feels more like your own again
The Relocated Self will be released in early 2026. If you would like updates and an early sample chapter, you can join the list below.
What is therapy for expats?
Expat therapy focuses on the emotional, psychological and relationship challenges that come with living in another country. Therapy sessions may look at relocation stress, identity changes, loss, and the impact of global life on you and your relationships.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults living abroad, including expat executives, expat partners (trailing spouses), global nomads, recent migrants, and couples. Some are in their first move, others have relocated many times.
Do you offer online or in person sessions?
All therapy sessions are online, using secure video. This allows us to keep working together even if you travel or move again.
Which countries can you see clients in?
I am based in Brisbane, Australia and work with English speaking clients based in Southeast Asia, Australia, the Middle East, the USA, Canada, South America, Africa and Europe. When booking with me you will see available times in your local time zone.
What happens in the free 20 minute connection call?
The connection call is an informal conversation where you can describe what you are dealing with, ask questions, and get a sense of how I work. We also check that therapy with me is a good fit for you.
How long do people usually work with you?
Some people come to therapy weekly for 6-8 weeks for support around a specific set of issues. Others prefer longer term support. We discuss what feels realistic and review this together as therapy progresses.
What are your fees?
Individual therapy is AUD200 for 80 minutes, or AUD160 for 55 minutes.
Couples therapy is AUD280 for 80 minutes, or AUD240 for 55 minutes.
